Newtown Square of Pennsylvania was settled in 1681, incorporated as a Township in 1684. Originally Newtown was laid out with what was called a "Townstead" in the center and the first purchasers of land in the Township were entitled to a certain number of acres in the Townstead or "new village" as it was sometimes called thus providing the name of the Township.
Newtown Square is 10.2 square miles, in the 168th District, and we are 400 to 410 feet above sea level. In a 1722 Newtown census there were 75-100 residents. Currently, the population is 11,700 (2000 census).
