The name Folcroft comes from an Old English word meaning "Leafy Fields". The name was recorded first by the Pennsylvania Railroad in the early 1880s.
The state historical marker which was on Chester Pike says "Folcroft: Old English for leafy green meadow/field."
The property was originally part of a 350-acre land grant given by William Penn.
